Corey Elkins completed a hat trick by scoring with 29 seconds left in overtime at Scope, giving the Norfolk Admirals a 5-4 win Friday night over Connecticut to start a two-game AHL series.
He had scored twice in the first period for the Admirals (3-0), but the Whale rallied back as ex-Admiral Brandon Segal scored twice in the third period.
The Admirals nevertheless ran their regular-season winning streak to 31 games,

Ana Bossman of Yorktown is off to a great start at the nationals.
She helped a Virginia Beach-based Mid-Atlantic Section championship team win its first match 3-2 over the Northern California champs in the 4.0-rated division of the USTA League 4.0 Adult Championships in Tucson, Ariz. Bossman and Tracy Johnson won 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 at No. 1 doubles.
Their team plays against the New England and Southwest sectional representatives Saturday in pool play.
Bossman’s team won a local league and advanced through state and sectional competition to earn its trip to Arizona.
