Williamsport received the top seed of the seven Washington County public-school teams Monday, when the MPSSAA held its draw for the upcoming region tournaments.
The Wildcats (11-2-1), the MVAL Antietam champions, are the No. 2 seed in Class 2A West. Following a first-round bye, they’ll host either No. 7 Wheaton or No. 10 Walkersville in the quarterfinals on Oct. 30. The No. 1 seed went to Middletown, the defending state champ.
In Class 1A West, No. 10 Hancock (0-11-1) will travel to play No. 7 Brunswick, the defending 1A West champ, in a first-round game this week, at a date and time to be determined. The winner advances to play at No. 2 Southern Garrett in the quarterfinals Oct. 30.
No. 4 Boonsboro (8-3-4), No. 5 Smithsburg (6-5-2) and No. 6 Clear Spring (8-5) all received first-round byes. In quarterfinals on Oct. 30, Boonsboro will host Smithsburg, while Clear Spring will play at No. 3 Fort Hill.
Mountain Ridge received the No. 1 seed in 1A West.
In Class 3A West, No. 10 North Hagerstown (3-9-1) and No. 12 South Hagerstown (2-10-1) will both play first-round games on the road this week.
The Hubs will play at No. 7 Albert Einstein on Thursday at 7 p.m., with the winner advancing to play at No. 2 Damascus on Tuesday.
The Rebels will play at No. 5 Northwood on Friday at 5 p.m. The winner of that game will either play at No. 4 Linganore or host No. 13 Urbana, the defending region champ, in the quarterfinals Tuesday.
Tuscarora is the No. 1 seed in 3A West.
All the region semifinal games are scheduled for Nov. 2 with the finals to be played Nov. 6.
Clear Spring, with the best boys record in Washington County at 12-2-1, was seeded third in the 1A West and has a bye into the quarterfinals, tentatively scheduled for Oct. 30 against Fort Hill (5-7-1) at Clear Spring.
Boonsboro (4-10-0) was the fifth seed and will go to Northern Garrett next week. Smithsburg (1-11-0) will host Southern Garrett, likely on Friday.
The state semifinals are scheduled for Nov. 10 at North County High School.
In Class 2A, Williamsport (9-4-0) earned the third seed, giving the Wildcats get a bye into next week when they will host either Francis Scott Key (6-4-0) or Century (7-4-2).
The 2A state semifinals are Nov. 9-10 at Bel Air High School.
In Class 3A, North Hagerstown will open tourney play on Thursday at home against Seneca Valley (6-7). The winner will play at Tuscarora in the quarterfinals next week.
South Hagerstown (1-10-1) is tentatively slated to be on the road Friday at Damascus (1-9-0).
The 3A state semifinals will be Nov. 10 at CCBC-Essex.
All of the state championship games will be Nov. 17 at UMBC-Catonsville.
