The 18th Tri-State Junior Golf Association season begins June 25 with five tournaments on the schedule.
The opener will be at Waynesboro Country Club, sponsored by Manitowoc Crane.
Second on the agenda is Black Rock Country Club on July 16, sponsored by Parkview Plumbing. Chambersburg Country Club is the host on July 23, followed by Fountain Head Country Club on Aug. 6 and the Tournament of Champions at Beaver Creek Country Club on Aug. 13.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the kids that return and to the new players,” said director Bill Hoffman. “We’re going into the season financially secure, the first time I can remember that in a while.”
Staley competes
North Hagerstown’s Aaron Staley recently competed in the Plantations Junior Tour Championship at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind.
Staley carded rounds of 75, 87 and 78 to finish tied for 19th place out of 45 golfers in the age 16-19 boys division.
Beaver Creek tourney
Beaver Creek Country Club recently held its club championship with Chris Taylor, of Leesburg, Va., capturing first place with a 54-hole total of 7-over-par 223.
Finley Benjiman, of Mt. Airy, was second at 226, Boonsboro’s Chuck Thatcher was third with 227 and Hagerstown’s Steve Miguel was fourth with 228.
MAPGA event
Several local golfers will be in the field Monday in the seventh annual Middle Atlantic PGA Pro-Scratch Championship at Green Spring Valley Hunt Club in Owings Mills, Md. The tournament is a four-ball stroke play event.
Playing from Beaver Creek Country Club will be Dirk Schultz/Chuck Thatcher and Bill Hoffman/Alex Hoffman. Tim Reeves and Roy Lorshbaugh will represent Black Rock, while Ashley Grier (Beaver Creek) and Steve Caron (Yingling’s) will play as a team.
