BOYS BASKETBALL

FREDERICK, Md. — Kenny McCrary delivered his biggest game of the season, leading North Hagerstown to a 57-52 vicotry over Thomas Johnson on Tuesday.                  

McCrary scored a season-high 15 points, grabbed 22 rebounds and blocked seven shots.

Guard Max Ober also had a personal best for the season, leading the Hubs (8-4) with 21 points. Andrew Yacyk had nine rebounds and Isaiah Keyes added six assists and six steals.

The difference in the game came in the third quarter, when North outscored the Patriots (7-6) 16-8.

Jake Brant had 10 points and Collin Schultz added nine points, 12 rebounds and three assists for the Blazers (5-4), who made all 10 of their free throws in the fourth quarter to ice the game.

Ryan Crabtree and Sterling Christy led the Wildcats (5-7) with nine points each.

Shane Sweeney had 12 points and Chad Barcikowski added 10 for the Lions (7-6).

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — After a close first half, Carlisle jumped out to an advantage in the third quarter and went on to beat Chambersburg in a Mid-Penn Commonwealth test.

Carlisle (8-6, 4-5) outscored the Trojans (8-5, 4-5) 18-9 in the third period with solid outside shooting.

Kellen Williams led Chambersburg with 14 points and Mitch Stahl added 11.

Josh Clippenger led Carlisle with 15 points.

NEEDMORE, Pa. — Highland View opened Tuesday’s game with a 23-7 first quarter and closed the game with a 30-6 fourth quarter in a rout of Fulton County Christian.

Hunter Sorensen scored 30 points, including three 3-pointers, Ray Fisher had a quadruple-double with 16 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists and 12 steals, Luis Mendoza had 15 points and Arthur Thomas added nine points and 17 rebounds for the Tartans (8-4).

Skyler Gordon hit seven 3-pointers en route to a game-high 38 points for Fulton County. Gordon, a senior, scored his 1,000th career point.

The Hubs were soundly beaten by Thomas Johnson, as Baily Griffin scored 26 points and Toniqua Black scored 23 for the Patriots (9-3).

Kayla Peterson had 13 points and 15 rebounds for North (3-6).

WAYNESBORO, Pa. — Camden Boehner made three 3-pointers and scored 19 points to lead Gettysburg (11-4, 6-2) past Waynesboro in the Mid-Penn Colonial.

Dori Kozain had 10 points, seven rebounds and three blocks, and Lauren Wagaman added 10 points for the Maidens (0-13, 0-8). Hunter Mowen had six rebounds and three steals, and Sam Nichols added five rebounds.

Allie Cox scored seven of her game-high 13 points in the final three minutes as Grace Academy came from behind to defeat Cumberland Valley Christian in the MDCC.

The Knights (3-6, 2-4) led 14-10 at the half but trailed 25-23 after three quarters. CVCS (2-11, 1-5) held Grace to three points through the first five minutes of the fourth quarter.

Cox took over, hitting three baskets — including a 3 — to lead Grace’s 11-5 closing run.

Cox and Amanda Eby had eight rebounds each, while Caitlin Cox finished with 12 points and eight rebounds.

Karlee Kipe had 11 for CVCS.

Leopards’ Koterwas commits to Elizabethtown

Smithsburg senior Elyse Koterwas has signed to play for Elizabethtown College, an NCAA Division III program, beginning this fall.

Koterwas earned 2012 Herald-Mail All-County and All-MVAL first-team honors as a midfielder. She scored three goals and assisted on five others, giving her a team-best 11 points.

Elizabethtown went 10-3-6 last season.
