Other schools knocking at his door with serious interest are Ohio State, Notre Dame, West Virginia, Georgetown, Pittsburgh and Texas.

* The latest chapter in the North Hagerstown-South Hagerstown city rivalry will take place Friday night at North.

At 5:30 p.m., the girls will clash horns, with South looking for a season sweep following a 57-34 victory on Dec. 11.

The boys will follow as the Rebels, who beat the Hubs 65-51 on that same night earlier this season, will seek a second straight regular-season sweep of North.

For five seasons from 2006-07 to 2010-11, the schools split the two games each year. The last time North beat South twice in a season was 2005-06.

* The Hancock girls currently stand at 11-5 on the season, the most wins in a season for the Panthers since 2005-06, when they went 10-13 as a member of the now-defunct Apple Valley League.

Wednesday’s 55-42 win over Hyndman — Hancock’s 11th — matched its win total last attained in 2004-05, when the Panthers went 11-13.

The current Panthers have a shot at matching or exceeding the 2003-04 team that went 14-9.

Coach Todd Ruppenthal has juggled his lineup around and eight players have been main contributors, beginning with Sara Wagner, who averages 11.7 points and 9.7 rebounds.

Alisa Shives is next with 10.1 points and nearly six rebounds per game. Kristen Shoemaker has been a thorn defensively, picking up 96 steals — that’s six a game.

* St. Maria Goretti’s two wins over Calvert Hall this season mark the first time since 2002-03 that the Gaels have accomplished that feat. That was the year of Cokey Robertson’s 700th victory — a 34-33 win at Calvert Hall on Super Bowl Sunday, Jan. 26.

* The Baltimore Catholic League tournament has a slight change this year. The four quarterfinal games will be hosted on the campus of the top four schools on Friday, Feb. 22. The semifinals and final will be played at Loyola University on Feb. 24-25.

* North Hagerstown’s 57-52 win over Thomas Johnson on Tuesday marked the first time a Hubs team won at Thomas Johnson since the 1984 campaign. Kenny McCrary’s 22 rebounds were the most in a single game by a North player since Danny Jones had 22 in a 1995 game against Brunswick.

* Cumberland Valley Christian’s Josh Sanders passed the 1,000-point mark for his career on Tuesday night in the Blazers’ 51-39 win over Grace Academy. Sanders had 19 points, pushing him past the mark to 1,012.
