THURMONT, Md. — Andre Pierre and Xavier Freeman had 13 points each to lead South Hagerstown to a 58-36 win over Catoctin (2-14, 2-10) in the MVAL Antietam on Friday night.

Devon King had six points, eight rebounds and five blocks, Carlton Davis had five assists and Charlie Herring added nine points and four assists for the Rebels (13-1, 9-1).

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — Petersburg shut down Berkeley Springs in the second quarter and took a commanding halftime lead en route to an easy victory.

Petersburg (7-7) shut off the inside and forced the Indians (7-7) to rely solely on 3-point shooting. Berkeley Springs was held scoreless in the second quarter until the final two seconds of the half and trailed 22-8 at intermission.

Petersburg pounded the ball inside in the second half to maintain the lead.

Josh Evans led Petersburg with 17 points. Kyle Appel had 15 points to lead Berkeley Springs and Zach Wise added 11.

Maya Helms led the Rebels (3-11, 2-8) with nine points. Kendra Berkeley had eight points and nine rebounds, and Katrice Dickson grabbed 11 rebounds.

WYE MILLS, Md. — Hagerstown Community College shut down Maryland JuCo Conference leading scorer Desma Nicholson to pave the way to a victory.

Nicholson scored only eight points, 20 below his average, to provide what was the difference in the game for the Hawks.

HCC (19-4) took the ball inside against Chesapeake, while the Skipjacks relied on 3-point shooting to stay in the game. Fifteen of Chesapeake’s 27 baskets came from behind the arc.

Najee White dominated the inside for HCC with 23 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks, while Devin Miller had 19 points, 11 rebounds and four steals. The Hawks got 16 points from Alister Chisholm and 11 from D’Quan Lynch, while Dameatric Scott dished out seven assists.

BRIEF

Sharpsburg Fast-Pitch signups

Sharpsburg Little League is offering registration for the first Little League Fast-Pitch softball league in District 1 with four registration dates.

The league, which will play on the Sharpsburg Little League field, is open to players from Sharpsburg, Williamsport, Boonsboro and Hagerstown.

The program will be for players from ages 8-12, including girls born from 1998-2004. Players born in 2005-06 will be eligible to play in a T-Ball league.

Registration will be held Thursday and Friday from 6 to 8 p.m., Feb. 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Feb. 19 from noon to 4 p.m. at Sharpsburg Bible Church on the corner of South Potomac and West Antietam streets.

Registration fee is $20 and all players must show proof of residence and a birth certificate.
