ACCIDENT, Md. — Zach Krall rushed for 82 yards on 17 carries and scored what proved to be the winning touchdown on a 1-yard run in the first quarter as Smithsburg opened its season with a 7-0 victory over Northern Garrett on Friday night.
Zane Gardenhour had 10 tackles and an interception, Robby Hogue had 10 tackles and a fumble recovery and Kevin Needy had seven tackles and a forced fumble for the Leopards (1-0).
Clear Spring 41, Fairfield 12
FAIRFIELD, Pa. — Adam Mellott passed for 158 yards and five touchdowns to lead Clear Spring to a season-opening rout of Fairfield.
Sam Elwood had 30 yards receiving, including three touchdowns, 10 tackles and a sack, Ryan Aaron scored on 30-yard and 55-yard touchdown passes, Stephen Smith scored on a 6-yard run, Chris Miller had an interception and Jesse Gentry had four carries for 67 yards for the Blazers (1-0), who combined for 194 yards rushing.
Liberty 20, Williamsport 12
ELDERSBURG, Md. — Williamsport dropped its season opener to Liberty.
Down 14-0 in the second half, the Wildcats got on the board when Tyler Wise returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown.
Liberty took advantage of a Williamsport turnover with an interception returned to the Wildcats’ 4 where the Lions scored for a 20-6 lead.
Williamsport then answered with a 31-yard scoring strike from Brandon Jackson to Jordan Palladino.
“We did not execute well at all offensively,” said Williamsport coach Randy Longnecker. “We couldn’t get out of our own way with mistakes tonight.”
The Wildcats also had a punt return for a touchdown called back.

ST. JAMES — Thomas Blake scored two goals to lead the Gaels past the Saints.
Mateo Pelja and Casey Bartholomew added goals for St. Maria Goretti (2-1). Jake Kline, Blake and Bartholomew each added an assist. John Winalski made seven saves and Drew Katrina added three.
Ben Louderback scored and Zuojun Gong made 12 saves for Saint James (0-2).

Andy Torres had a hat trick to lead Broadfording Christian past Grace Academy.
Michael Torres, Nathan Brazil and Stephen Glaspell had a goal each, Andrew Grimm had two assists, Trevors Suddenly and Jared Morris each had an assist and Daniel Frederickson had 15 saves for the Lions.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Ashlyn Blank had 10 kills and 27 digs to lead Shalom Christian in a 25-14, 25-19, 25-22 sweep of Calvary Christian in the Mason Dixon Christian Conference.
Natasha Gibble had nine kills, 12 assists, two aces and two blocks, Kristen Blank had three kills and eight assists, Abby Crider had three kills and 14 digs, Karlee Wise had 18 digs, Tori Yoder had four kills and Brooke Poe, Karlee Wise and Kasey Ebersole each had two aces for the Flames (2-1, 2-1).

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Callie Butts had nine aces and 20 assists to lead Heritage Academy in a 25-11, 25-10, 25-5 sweep of Cumberland Valley Christian School.
Kara Stamper had nine aces, 14 kills and four blocks, Rachel Clarke had three kills and six blocks, Jessica Gaylor had six digs, Kathleen Kidd had three digs and Stephanie O’Brien had four digs for the Eagles (3-0).
