Bulldog Invitational
NEWVILLE, Pa. — Chambersburg swept the boys and girls team titles in the AAA division at the Bulldog Invitational on Big Spring High School’s 3.1-mile course Saturday.
Nick Rotz placed fourth (17:08.6) in the boys race and Natalie Holder placed seventh in the girls race (20:21.5) to lead the Trojans. There were about 200 runners in each race.
The Williamsport boys finished fourth in the 22-team AAA field, getting top-10 finishes from Evan Hardy (third, 16:57.7) and Cody Bowman (10th, 17:23.3).
North Hagerstown finished ninth in the 19-team AAA girls field, led by Emily Ward’s 11th-place finish (20:43.8).
The individual champs were Shippensburg’s Reyna Spence (19:20.4) in the girls race and Big Spring’s Vinny Todaro (16:33.2) in the boys race.
The Greencastle girls had two top-10 finishers — Caroline Schemel (sixth, 20:02.4) and Shelby Stouffer (ninth, 20:38.7).
CYCLING
Spinnler 3rd at Hill Climb
SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — Mike Spinnler, 52, of Hagerstown, placed third overall Sunday in the September edition of the South Mountain Hill Climb.
Spinnler, who competes for Antietam Velo Club/Team Hagerstown-Washington County Tourism, completed the challenging 7.3-mile course in 27 minutes, 39 seconds.
Eiichiro Omata, 32, of Tokyo, won the race in 26:28, and Luis Amenzana, 38, of Harrisburg, Pa., outsprinted Spinnler to take second in 27:36. The top three finishers turned in the top three performances of the season on the course.
