BOYS BASKETBALL

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Faith Christian held Heritage Academy scoreless in the third quarter and then held off the Eagles in the fourth for a 44-40 Mason Dixon Christian Conference win Tuesday.

Heritage (1-1, 1-1) outscored Faith 21-11 in the fourth but couldn’t overcome the 11-0 whitewashing in the third.

Paul Hercules had 11 points to lead Faith (1-0, 1-0) in its season opener. Ben Cosner led Heritage with 16 points and Alex Cosner had 11.

Avery Wilmore had 19 points, including two 3-pointers, seven rebounds and five assists, Alec Wheeler had 11 points, including three 3-pointers, and three assists and Bobby Leatherman had seven rebounds for the Saints (0-2).

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. — Q.J. Peterson scored 26 points to lead Hedgesville in a romp over Silver Oak Academy in the Eagles’ season opener.

Hedgesville, ranked No. 3 in the West Virginia Class AAA preseason  poll, also received 12 points each from Juwan Powell and Chris Shields.

Broadfording 64, Grace 27

Ben Cradduck scored 16 points and Mo Sallah had 15 as Broadfording (4-1, 3-0) defeated Grace Academy in a Mason Dixon Christian Conference game on Monday.

Eric Boutiellier led Grace (2-5, 0-2) with nine points.



GIRLS BASKETBALL

Heritage 62, Faith 16

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Callie Butts had 13 points, six steals and seven assists to lead Heritage Academy to a victory over Faith Christian.

The Eagles (2-0) forced Faith into numerous turnovers with half-court pressure in the first quarter to build a 20-0 lead.

Rachel Clarke had 10 points, nine rebounds and four assists for Heritage, while Kathleen Kidd added 10 points and six steals. Cherie Clark led the Eagles with 13 rebounds and six steals.

Ally Romine and Olivia Lemaster had four points each for the Falcons (0-1).
