PREP SOFTBALL

SMITHSBURG — Cara Ferguson pitched a six-inning, two-hit shutout with four strikeouts, and Smithsburg remained unbeaten with a 10-0 MVAL Antietam victory over Williamsport on Thursday afternoon.

Kinsey Shifflett had two hits and three RBIs, Shayla Murray had two hits and two RBIs, and Sam Gladhill added two hits and an RBI for Smithsburg (8-0, 6-0).

Williamsport (2-4, 2-3) hurt its cause with seven errors.

Heather Callahan had five goals and Jennifer Harman had one for the Rebels (0-4).

Saint James 8, Georgetown Day 4

ST. JAMES — Ben Louderback had three goals and an assist to lead Saint James past Georgetown Day in the Mid-Atlantic Conference.

Kyle Neale had a goal and an assist, Leighton Younger, Max Brady, Austin Fahey and Jake Thompson each had a goal, Avery Wilmore had an assist and Will Smith had four saves for the Saints (2-3, 1-0).

Rockville 6-1, HCC 5-13

ROCKVILLE, Md. — Montgomery-Rockville beat Hagerstown Community College on an RBI double in the ninth inning of the opener, but the Hawks unloaded on Rockville for a five-inning victory in the nightcap to salvage a split.

Lazaro Torres and Andrew Zeger each had two hits and an RBI, and Chris Kulik drove in two runs for HCC (18-17) in the opener.

In the nightcap, Cole Sellers and Dylan Dunn each had two hits and two RBIs to back  Dylan Schaeffer’s three-hitter.

COLLEGE TRACK

Dawkins leads Hawks

WESTMINSTER, Md. — Prince Dawkins won the long jump (20-6 1/2) and triple jump (43-1 3/4) and placed third in both the 200 (22.72) and 400 (52.19) for the Hagerstown Community College men at the McDaniel Twilight Invitational on Wednesday.

Wyatt Funk placed third in the high jump for the Hawks.

For the HCC women, Jasmine Reynolds placed second in the 100 (13.25), while Amber Elliott stayed busy, placing third in the javelin (80-11), fourth in the long jump (14-8 1/2), fifth in the 100 (13.83), fifth in the 200 (28.72) and fifth in the 100 hurdles (20.62).
