PREP BASEBALL

CLEAR SPRING — Nick Hill had two hits, including a three-run homer to highlight a seven run fourth-inning, as Clear Spring shut out Berkeley Springs 14-0 in five innings on Wednesday.

Brent Mentzer had three hits for the Blazers (6-5), who rapped out 15 hits. Hill held the Indians (9-10) to just two hits.

Sam Gladhill opened up the scoring with a two-run homer in the first and added four RBIs, Shayla Murray and Sabrina Green had two hits and three RBIs each and Kinsey Shifflett and Brooke Parks had two hits and two RBIs each for the Leopards (11-1).

Butts signs

WILLIAMSPORT — Williamsport senior catcher Ryan Butts will continue his career at Davis & Elkins University.

Butts, who also played basketball, signed a letter-of-intent to attend Davis & Elkins, a four-year liberal arts school and a Division II member of the West Virginia Conference.

HCC at McDaniel Twilight Meet

WESTMINSTER, Md. — Hagerstown Community College had several placewinners at the recent McDaniel Twilight Meet.

Prince Dawkins was first in the 400 (51.25), second in the 200 (22.75) and third in the long jump (20-4 1/2) for the HCC men, while Ryan Kaiser was first in the 3,000 (9:48.25), Justin Gunne was first in the javelin (134-7) and fifth in the discus (101-9), Rodney Flora was second in the 400 (52.19), fourth in the high jump (5-8) and sixth in the long jump (19-0), Wyatt Funk was third in the high jump (5-10) and sixth in the 800 (2:10.11), Luis Majano was third in the 3,000 (9:59.81), Charlie Seabright was fourth in the javelin (105-1), fifth in the shot put (33-2) and sixth in the discus (85-0), Ryan Schnarrs was fifth in the javelin (104-0), sixth in the shot put (32-6) and seventh in the discus (84-6) and Heisman Johnson was sixth in the 400 (57.41).

For the HCC women, Ashley Smothers was third in the 400 (1:06.27) and eighth in the 200 (29.72), Whitney Murphy was third in the 200 (27.01), Kerri Gasior was fourth in the 800 (2:38.58), Yolanda Pinckett was fifth in the 400 (1:08.13) and Victoria Broadwater was sixth in the 400 (1:13.58).

Mach 1 opens in Philly

PHILADELPHIA — The Mach 1 Track Club, of Hagerstown, recently opened its season at the “Philly’s Finest” meet, and the new club had four placewinners.

In the girls 7-8 age group, Grace Fleetwood was first in the 200 (37.00), second in the 100 (16.75) and second in the 400 (1:23.56). In the girls 9-10 division, Nia Brown was second in the 400 (1:19.80), third in the 100 (15.67) and fourth in the 200 (34.10). In the girls 13-14 division, Micaela Fleetwood was first in the 200 (27.86) and second in the 100 (13.25).

In the boys 11-12 divison, Jalyx Hunt was first in the shot put (28-5), sixth in the 200 (29.82) and seventh in the 100 (14.22).



GOLF

Hole-in-one

Art Cline recorded a hole-in-one at Beaver Creek Country Club, using a 7-iron on the 14th hole from 140 yards. His shot was witnessed by Carl Cline and Chris Mikash.
