BALTIMORE — Hagerstown Community College’s season came to an end Sunday with a pair of losses in the NJCAA Region XX Final Four tournament.
The Hawks lost to Catonsville 10-5 in the winners’ bracket final, then were bounced from the tournament in an 8-0 loss to Chesapeake in which they had no hits.
Chesapeake’s Amber Labille struck out three in the no-hitter.
“The score’s not really representative of the game or our at-bats,” said HCC coach Amy Sterner. “We hit the ball hard, but we hit it right at somebody. A liner to left field, a liner to center field, a liner to third base ... they were quality swings and quality at-bats, just unlucky, I guess.”
Sarah Mullin had two hits and Carly Mowen had two RBIs in the first game for the Hawks (19-21). Mowen and Brittany Heller were named to the all-tournament team.
Kayla Ewing was named to the Region XX first team, garnering the fourth-most votes. Mowen was a second-team selection.
