PREP TRACK & FIELD
FREDERICK, Md. — North Hagerstown’s Raven Jackson and Emily Ward both won events during the first day of the Maryland Class 3A West championships Wednesday at Tuscarora High School.
Jackson, a senior, won the girls triple jump with a mark of 37 feet, 9 3/4 inches, while Ward, a sophomore, won the girls 3,200-meter run in 11:50.18.
While South Hagerstown had to settle for second place in the boys 4x200 relay, the Rebels’ time of 1:29.17 broke the all-time Washington County record they set in the event earlier this season (1:29.25).
South also finished second in the girls 4x200 in 1:43.59 for a school record and the top time in the Tri-State area this spring.
The top four in each event automatically qualified for next week’s state meet, as did those who met certain advancement standards.
North had two state qualifiers in the pole vault. Emily Smith placed third in the girls pole vault (8-6), while Jason White tied for fifth in the boys pole vault (10-8), meeting the advancement standard of 10-8.
The meet concludes today at Tuscarora.
