MEN’S BASKETBALL

BRONX, N.Y. — Hagerstown Community College suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, falling 88-81 to host Monroe College, a team HCC defeated 87-79 six days earlier at the Jim Brown Classic in Hagerstown.

The Hawks led 76-72 with 5:44 left Saturday, before Monroe closed the game on a 16-5 run.

Donte Thomas had 19 points, nine assists and six steals for HCC (10-1), while Antonio Jenifer had 19 points and five rebounds and Kervin Ramanu had 16 points, nine rebounds, five steals and three blocks.



BOYS BASKETBALL

Goretti 58, Mercersburg 44

Isaiah Harris-Winn had 11 points for St. Maria Goretti in a win over Mercersburg Academy.

Forrest Buterbaugh had nine points and eight rebounds, Tyrus Fleetwood had nine points and Martin Geben had seven points, seven rebounds and four assists for the Gaels (4-2).

MERCERSBURG, Pa. — Hanna Warfield scored 21 points to lead Mercersburg Academy to a season opening win over Cumberland Valley Christian School.

Sarah Firestone had 14 points and eight rebounds and Teal Tasker had eight points and seven steals for the Blue Storm (1-0).

ST. JAMES — Alec Wingerd (126 pounds) and Kevin Cooper (132) finished first in their weight class to help Saint James to a second place finish in the Holloway Tournament.

Justin Pank (145) finished second, Kyle Titus Glover (170) and Henry Smith (160) each finished in third place and Lukas Pank (106), Adam Hamrick (170) and Leighton Younger (220) finished in fourth place in their respective weight classes for the Saints.

Mercersburg Academy also competed in the Holloway Tournament and finished sixth with five place-winners.

C.J. Sarao (138) finished with five wins, including three pins, two major decisions and a 9-1 victory over Peter Callahan of the Heights School in his final match to place third in the consolation bracket.

Josh Setliff (170) went 2-1, including a major decision, and placed second, losing 7-5 to Joe Bruchalski of the Heights School.

Mark Meloro (182) won three matches, including a pin and major decision, before injury default sidelined him in the finals against Patrick Wenzlaff of Saint Johns.

Ayo Adjibaba (195) went 3-1 with two pins and won his third place match by defeating Troy Lovisone of Bishop Ireton 5-3 in overtime and Josh Abeles went 3-2, including three pins in the heavyweight division for the Blue Storm.

BALTIMORE — Mac Williams finished the day undefeated as Mercersburg Academy opened its season with wins over St. Paul’s School 6-1, The Hill School 7-0 but lost to St. Andrew’s 6-1 in the St. Paul’s Tournament.

Max Weinik, Otto Bunjapamai, Eli Woodworth, Albert Lam and Jeremy Greenberger finished the day 2-1, while Seth Noorbakhsh went 1-2 for the Blue Storm (2-1).
