BOYS BASKETBALL

CUMBERLAND, Md. — Martin Geben had a game-high 22 points and teammate Tyrus Fleetwood scored 21 to lead St. Maria Goretti to an 80-70 victory over Allegany at the Sentinel Classic on Thursday.

Geben also had 11 rebounds and three blocks, while Fleetwood added five rebounds, five assists and three steals for the Gaels (9-5). Isaiah Harris-Winn had 10 points in the victory.

Goretti trailed 17-14 at the end of the first quarter, but outscored the Campers 26-16 in the second quarter and 24-14 in the third to take a commanding 64-47 lead into the final period.

Christian Thomas led Allegany (4-3) with 19 points.

Everett 53, Boonsboro 52

EVERETT, Pa. — Trevon Ward hit a foul shot with 1.4 seconds remaining as Everett survived a late scare from Boonsboro on Thursday to move into the championship game of the Everett Holiday Tournament.

The Warriors (3-4) trailed the entire game until taking a lead with 1 1/2 minutes remaining. But Boonsboro couldn’t hold on, turning the ball over twice in the final minute, leading to Ward’s game-winning free throw. Everett outscored Boonsboro 14-3 from the foul line.

Boonsboro will face West Branch on Saturday in the consolation game.

Casey Strunk led Boonsboro wih 16 points, while Scott Bennett added 11. Ward led Everett (2-2) with 17, while Tanner Mellott added 10.

Henry Wise 67, Saint James 54

MOUNT VERNON, Va. — Obi Enechionyia had 21 points and 10 rebounds for Saint James in the first round of the Mount Vernon Holiday Tournament.

The Saints (3-7) dropped their fifth straight game in which the outcome was decided in the fourth quarter.

Trailing 46-43 after three quarters, the Saints were outscored by 10 points.

The Saints will play Friday at 1 against West Potomac (Va.).

Chambersburg 64, Gettysburg 58

GETTYSBURG, Pa. — Chambersburg and Gettysburg started slowly on the scoreboard but lit things up in the final eight minutes at the Gettysburg Holiday Tournament.

The Trojans (5-3) handed Gettysburg (8-1) its first loss and did it with a superior showing at the free throw line, connecting on 24 of 28 foul shots.

Kellen Williams led the Trojans with 21 points and hit 7 of 9 free throws in the fourth quarter. Evason Obgonna added 15 points and Tay Charles had 10, including four free throws in the final period.

Chambersburg scored 27 points in the final eight minutes, and even though Gettysburg scored 34, the Trojans never let Gettysburg get closer than the final margin.

Cody Kiefer led Gettysburg with 21 points and Trey Thomas had 17.

Friday at 8, Chambersburg will play Delone Catholic in the championship game.

Holiday cancellation

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — School officials decided Thursday morning that the Rotary Great Tri-State Shootout, already postponed from Wednesday, would be cancelled for this year.

Teams involved were host Berkeley Springs along with Clear Spring, Hancock and Southern Fulton.


GIRLS BASKETBALL

South-Martinsburg postponed

The South Hagerstown-Martinsburg game scheduled at the Hampshire Holiday Classic in Romney, W.Va., was postponed on Thursday.

South and Martinsburg will meet Friday at 2 p.m. with the consolation and championship on Saturday.
