Horning, Smith qualify for nationals
LEWISBURG, Pa. — Hagerstown Community College had two athletes qualify for the NJCAA national meet with strong performances Saturday at the Bucknell Mini-Meet at Bucknell University.
South Hagerstown graduate Brandon Horning finished fourth in the 3,000 meters in 8 minutes, 52.52 seconds and Brunswick graduate Grant Smith was second in the shot put with a throw of 55 feet, 6.5 inches.
The national meet will be held at Texas Tech University in March.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Shepherd 92, Alderson-Broaddus 59
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — Chad Moore had a game-high 21 points and Austin Cunningham added 17 to lead Shepherd University over Alderson-Broaddus in a West Virginia Conference game at the Butcher Center.
Moore connected on 8 of 13 shots from the floor. He added game-highs of seven rebounds and three steals. Cunningham dished out a game-high six assists.
Brantley Osborne was also in double figures for the Rams (8-2, 5-1) with 10 points, while Morgan McDonald had eight points and tied Moore for game-high rebounding honors with seven.
Jonathan Ferguson and O’Dell Eargle each had nine points to lead the Battlers (6-3, 4-1).
Shepherd is off to its best start since it opened the 1992-93 season by winning 10 of its first 11 games.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — Rachel Johnson scored 15 points and Emily Daniel added 14 to lead Shepherd University over Alderson-Broaddus in a West Virginia Conference game at the Butcher Center.
Priscilla Moseh posted a double-double with 11 points and a career-high 11 rebounds for the Rams. Alex Weakland also tossed in 11 points, while Jimyse Brown added 10.
The Rams (4-6, 3-3) took a commanding 50-19 lead into the break as Johnson combined for 20 first-half points. Shepherd shot 70.4 percent (19 of 27) from the floor in the first half while limiting the Battlers (2-6, 1-4) to a 21.4 percent (6-for-28) effort.
