CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — Washington’s defense took over in the second quarter as the Patriots pulled away for a victory over Musselman.
Washington (7-4) outscored the Applemen 19-6 in the period to take a 33-18 lead at the half.
Jackie Hess led the Patriots with 18 points and four assists, while Morgan Adams added 10 points and seven rebounds. Kenya Dozier had seven rebounds and four blocked shots.
Brianna Caison led Musselman (5-5) with nine points.

McCONNELLSBURG. Pa. — Southern Fulton defeated McConnellsburg in the Sideling Hill League to start the season at 11-0, the second straight year it has done that.
McConnellsburg (4-5, 1-4) jumped to a five-point lead in the first quarter, but the Indians turned things around, taking a 27-19 lead by halftime.
Macey Hollenshead led Southern Fulton with 18 points, eight steals and seven assists. Taelor Morton added 13 points and Kayla Wertz had 12, all coming on 3-pointers.
Jessie Keefer led McConnellsburg with 19 points, Nikki Fleming had eight rebounds and Samantha Roberts had five assists for the Spartans.

STEPHENS CITY, Va. — Raymond Fisher hit four 3-pointers en route to a game-high 22 points to lead Highland View Academy past Shenandoah Valley Christian (6-5).
Fisher added eight assists and six steals, Arthur Thomas had 12 points and 17 rebounds and Justin Osoro had 11 points and 18 rebounds for the Tartans (5-4).

INSTITUTE, W.Va. — Jalen Walker hit a layup with 3 seconds left to lift West Virginia State (6-7, 4-4) to a WVIAC victory over Shepherd.
Walker’s game-winning shot came 6 seconds after Brantley Osborne’s 3-pointer put the Rams in front, 89-88.
Osborne finished with 22 points for Shepherd (8-4, 5-3), while Chad Moore had 21 points, 16 rebounds and 10 steals for just the third triple-double in Rams history.
