BALTIMORE — The St. Maria Goretti boys basketball team reaped individual awards at the BCL banquet on Monday night.

Amrit Rayfield was named BCL Coach of the Year in his fourth year as the Gaels’ head coach.

Then, 6-foot-8 junior Martin Geben was named Player of the Year. Geben averages more than 16 points and nearly 12 rebounds a game for the Gaels.

Guard Tyrus Fleetwood won the BCL’s Most Improved Player and was named to the honorable mention team.

The Gaels are 21-11 overall — their best record since the 2001-02 season — heading into tonight’s game at Montrose Christian. They finished 7-7 in the BCL, their first season at .500 or better in the league in at least 10 years.

Martinsburg 76, Saint James 67

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Donte Grantham had a game-high 25 points, seven rebounds and three steals to lead Martinsburg past Saint James.

Jordan Robinson had 14 points, 10 rebounds and four assists, Jalen Lewis had 14 points and Eugene German had nine points and five rebounds for the Bulldogs (20-2).

Nnamdi Enechionyia had a team-high 24 points, Jacob Thompson had 16 points and Obi Enechionyia had 14 points for the Saints (11-13).
