Golf

For the first time, Hancock had two players compete as individuals in the Washington County Public Schools tournament on Thursday at Black Rock Golf Course.

Cody Trunkle shot an 89 and Kyle Kerns shot a 92 for the Panthers. The same pair also competed in the recent Maryland 1A/2A District meet.

Coach Dave Kerns hopes to field a full competitive team next season at Hancock.

* Washington, in its third year of existence, was the only team from the West Virginia Panhandle to qualify for the state tournament.

The Patriots shot 245 at Locust Hill in Charles Town, led by medalist Ryan Mumaw’s 74.

Robert Fleming, Dylan Mumaw and Patrick Burgess also were members of the Patriots’ successful team.
