WICHITA, Kan. —
A visit from perennial women’s college basketball power Louisiana State University highlights the 2011-12 Wichita State non-conference schedule. The Shockers will play 14 home games overall and are coming off the second-best two-year win total in program history and a trip to the 2011 WNIT. The home opener for Wichita State is Saturday, Nov. 12 at 2:05 p.m. against Northwestern State with the LSU matchup following closely behind on Monday, Nov. 14 at 7:05 p.m. The Tigers are coached by Nikki Caldwell in her first season in Baton Rouge. Caldwell was a teammate of WSU head coach Jody Adams at the University of Tennessee, where they paired up to win a national championship in 1991.
Adams is in her fourth season at WSU. The Shockers return second team All-MVC performer Haleigh Lankster along with starters Jessica Diamond, Jazimen Gordon, and Chynna Turner.
Also coming to Koch Arena in non-conference action are Winthrop (Nov. 23 at 7:05 p.m.), Central Michigan (Nov. 30 at 7:05 p.m.), and Southern Methodist University (Dec. 3 at 2:05 p.m.).
The Shockers make return visits to Arizona and UC Davis in November then travel to Kansas State and Texas-San Antonio early in December. The non-conference schedule concludes with a trip to the Beach Classic hosted by Long Beach State December 18-19.
Wichita State is coming off the program’s top finish in conference play in a decade and will take their first step towards improving upon last year’s mark on December 29 at Northern Iowa. The Shockers’ Valley home opener is January 5 at 7:05 p.m. vs. Drake. Missouri State will be in Wichita on January 14 and the Shockers end regular season MVC play on March 3 against last year’s conference champion, UNI.
