The Orioles added pitcher Zach Clark to their 40-man roster, the club announced Wednesday.
Clark -- who pitched at UMBC -- had a breakout season that largely went under the radar, going 15-7 with a 2.78 ERA in 28 games this past season at Double-A Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk.
He was signed in 2006 as an undrafted free agent by local scout Dean Albany and has compiled a 49-44 record with a 3.68 ERA in seven minor league seasons in the Orioles farm system.
Clark, a Wilmington, Del., native was a dominant pitcher at Norfolk, going 5-2 with a 1.75 ERA there in eight games (seven starts), allowing just 38 hits over 46 1/3 innings. He threw a complete-game three-hit shutout in his last start of the season Aug. 31.
Clark joins a roster with an increasing number of local ties. Right-hander Steve Johnson is a St. Paul's alum and outfielder L.J. Hoes is a Mitchellville native.
The Orioles also traded for Northern Virginia native and Virginia Tech product Joe Saunders, who is a free agent, late in the season, and have signed Sander Beck (Maryland), Glynn Davis (Northeast High/ Catonsville C.C.), Branden Kline (Virginia/Thomas Johnson High) and Josh Hader (Old Mill) in the past three years.
The Orioles now have 36 players on their 40-man roster.
