CHARLEVOIX -- Nick Snabes had two goals and Walker Drost had a goal and three assists Thursday as Charlevoix rolled past Kalkaska, 7-1, in a Lake Michigan Conference boys soccer match.

Brendan Britt, Justin Pearl, Eric Tripplehorn and Nate Moon also scored, while Jordan Jelinek and Ryan Joy each had an assist.

It was the first career goal for Tripplehorn, a senior sweeper.

Connor Currier, Moon and Britt each took a turnin goal for the Rayders, who improved to 5-3-1 overall, 2-1 league.



Elk Rapids 7, Boyne City 1

BOYNE CITY -- Elk Rapids built a 6-0 halftime lead in handing Boyne its first Lake Michigan Conference loss of the season.

Steve Halstead scored the Ramblers' goal off a Luca Thomsen assist.

Eric Patrick and Corey Bohnet were Boyne's defensive standouts, coach Nick Baic said.

Jacob Knitter and Jared Fleming split the game in goal for the Ramblers. Knitter made four saves in the first half, while Fleming record 12 in the second.

Boyne slipped to 7-4 overall, 3-1 league.

NMCA wins

BURT LAKE -- Abbey Vertican had 10 aces and Rebekah Laurie finished with seven kills and four aces as Burt Lake Northern Michigan Christian Academy swept Kinross Maplewood Baptist, 25-17, 25-10, 25-15, in a non-league match.

The Eagles improved to 8-0.

Shelby Donovan finished with 18 digs and five aces for NMCA, while Natascha Vinz added four kills and 11 digs, and Jennifer Thompson and Rebekah Leonard had 14 and eight assists, respectively.


Lancers sweep

ELLSWORTH -- Kari Steenwyk recorded 16 kills and three blocks Thursday as Ellsworth swept Wolverine, 25-7, 25-12, 25-12, in its Northern Lakes Conference opener.

Ashley Drenth and Elizabeth Sowers finished with six aces apiece for the Lancers, while Leah Swenson was Ellsworth's top passer, coach Linda Steenwyk said.

Drenth served at 100 percent.
