Five youth wrestlers from Huntington Beach-based Surfside USA Wrestling Club placed among the top six of their respective weight classes at the State of California Wrestling Alliance for the Youth Zone 6 & 7 State Championship Qualifier at El Dorado High in Placentia on Sunday.

With their top six placements, all five Surfside competitors secured a berth for the SCWAY state championship tournament next month in Clovis.

Four of the five Surfside wrestlers earned home first-place trophies in their weight classes: Steele Marshall (age group 7-8, 58 pounds), Cade Haakenson (age group 9-10, 64 pounds), Joey McLaughlin (age group 11-12, 65 pounds) and Patrick Samson (age group 11-12, 69 pounds). Jacob McLaughlin took second place (age group 9-10, 53 pounds).

Little League

The Hot Rods turned a fast start into victory Saturday in Minor A Division action at Ocean View Little League. They scored 10 runs over the first three innings and went on to record an 11-4 win over the Bulls.

Nick Madole went two for two with a triple in the fourth inning, Antonio Ventimiglia had a two-run double, and Carson Webb had an RBI groundout for the Hot Rods.
