Aberdeen: The funeral service for Oline E. Appletoft, 90, of Aberdeen will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 29, 2011, at Plymouth Congregational UCC, with Pastor Sam Ellyson officiating.
Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield, SD.
Oline died Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.
Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. Thursday, July 28, 2011, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., in Aberdeen.
Oline E. Mysse was born July 8, 1921, in Sokndal, Norway, to Ludwig and Hulda (Aasvold) Mysse. She was born and baptized into the Lutheran faith. In October 1927, they moved to Billings, MT, for six months, and then moved to Anaconda, MT. She grew up and attended school there, graduating from Anaconda High School with the class of 1940. Oline then attended Montana State Normal in Dillon, MT, until 1942, when she received her teaching certificate. During WWII, Oline worked for the war department in Hawaii. It was there that she met Edwin Appletoft. They were married on December 3, 1945, in Las Vegas, NV. She taught school for 10 years and worked at various jobs. Oline went back to school later in life and received her BS in history at Black Hills State University. They made their home in Spearfish, SD. Edwin died June 6, 1985, in Sturgis, SD. Oline remained in Spearfish until 2006, when she moved to Aberdeen to be close to family.
Oline attended Plymouth Congregational UCC of Aberdeen. She was an avid reader and enjoyed telling stories of history.
Grateful for having shared Oline's life are her two sons: Edwin (Eloise) Appletoft Jr. and Thomas (LaVonne) Appletoft, both of Aberdeen; 10 grandchildren: Estelle Grote, Eric Appletoft, Elisha (Mark) Jastram, Evanie Appletoft, Janey (Brian) Appletoft Knie, Eliott Appletoft, Eli Appletoft, Jamie (Kari) Appletoft, Michael Appletoft and Allison Appletoft; and four great-grandchildren: Nathan Grote, Maxwell Jastram, Julia Knie and Alexis Appletoft.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ludwig and Hulda; her husband, Edwin; one son, Roy; and her sister, Gladys Brien.
