Arlo Dean Huff, 79, of Sisseton passed away on Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at Essentia Health in Fargo, N.D.
He was born on April 9, 1933, in Summit, the son of Leo & Hulda (Hamann) Huff.
Arlo honorably served his country in the United States Army from May 5, 1953, to May 4, 1956. He was a Sergeant with the 4th Field Artillery Battalion. This was the last unit to ever use mules to pull artillery over rugged terrain.
Arlo D. Huff and Helen Hillberg were joined in marriage on Oct. 5, 1973.
Arlo was engaged in farming and ranching in the Drywood Lake area his whole life.
He was a member of The Hills and Valley Riding Club. Arlo loved horses and was well known for his Quarter Horse Breeding stock. He enjoyed rodeos, trail rides and wagon trains. Arlo built his own covered wagon, in which he and Helen enjoyed many evening rides through the hills. He also enjoyed playing cards, spending time with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Arlo was a School Bus Driver for the Sisseton School District for 121 ⁄ 2 years. In 2008, he and Helen were the Grand Marshals of the Peever Snoose Alley Bash. He was a member of The American Legion Post No. 50 in Sisseton.
Arlo is survived by his wife, Helen Huff; children: Arlys Daniel, of Sisseton, Lorna (David) Behrns, of Peever, Ron (Carrie) Fleischhacker, of Eagle River, Ark., Richard (Missy) Huff, of Sisseton, Rodney (Theresa) Huff, of Aberdeen and Lila (Josh) Bjerken, of Mapleton, N.D.; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four foster daughters: Sherri, Ashley, Lindsay and Stephanie Chanku: two brothers: Melvin Huff Sr., of Sisseton, Larry (Arlette) Huff, of Mitchell; and two sisters: Arlene (Roy) Cleveland, of Sisseton and Marilyn (Gene) Hortness, of Gettysburg.
Arlo was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Hulda Huff.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the family’s residence at 12398 Lohre Road in Sisseton.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at 10 a.m., with viewing from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Peever Lutheran Church in Peever. Pastor Vern Donnell will officiate. Following services, the internment will be at the Buffalo Lake Lutheran Church Cemetary.
Casket Bearers will be: Jerry Daniel, Clint Behrns, Mitchell Lohre, Seth Lohre, Kegan Huff, Andrew Williams, Cameron Huff, Pat Rabenberg and Arnie Finnesand.
Honorary Casket Bearers will be the rest of Arlo’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Michelle Behrns, Tayler Huff, Hailey Huff, Hunter Fleischhacker, Matthew Fleischhaker, Timber Fleischhaker and Jacob Bjerken, Kesha Wisenor, Alexis Wahl, Trey Wilson. The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, Minn., is serving the family.
