Fort Myers, Fla.: The body of Florence J. Williams, 93, died on Aug. 5, 2012, in Fort Myers, Florida. A second generation American, she was raised on a farm in Iowa by her parents, Lars C. Jensen and Marie Ladegaard Jensen, who immigrated from Denmark. As a young woman, she taught in a rural one room schoolhouse. On July 26, 1942, she married Gordon E.
Williams and experienced the tumultuous times of being an army wife with an infant during World War II.
With her family, she lived in Lake Andes and Aberdeen, where she excelled in creating a loving home. She eventually became the accountant for the school lunch program of the Aberdeen Public Schools.
Always active in her community, she was a faithful part of First Presbyterian Church, Northern State Faculty Wives (where Gordon taught chemistry), a long standing bridge club and the friendly neighborhood surrounding 1609 S. 3rd Street in Aberdeen.
In retirement, she and Gordon spent 24 years at Fountain of the Sun in Mesa, Ariz. After a stroke and rehabilitation, she moved to Emeritus at the Lakes near her daughter in Fort Myers, Fla., where she lived an active life.
Florence is survived and was loved by her sister, Fern Larscheid; brother, Earl Jensen; her son, Bruce (Jane) Williams; daughter, Sandra (Jim) Boler; grandchildren: Dan and Betsy Boler, Anne and Chad Busker, Kathy and Chris Glover and Cara and Tom Dietert; greatgrandchildren: William and Lydia Dietert, Matthew Glover, Mahren and Owen Busker and Mary and Ellie Boler.
There will be a celebration of life at the chapel at her home in Fort Myers at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug.
15. Her cremains will be interred at Fort Snelling, beside Gordon’s, in Minneapolis, Minn., on Friday, Sept. 14. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Fort Myers Congregational United Church of Christ.
