Jacqueline 'Jackie' Stewart (Aberdeen News / May 23, 2012)

Aberdeen: The memorial service for Jacqueline “Jackie” Stewart, 79, of Aberdeen will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2012, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Aberdeen. Father David Hussey will officiate.

Jackie died Saturday, May 19, 2012, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Jacqueline Holder was born Sept. 9, 1932, to Dr. Hall G. and Constance (Swire) Holder in LaJolla, Calif.

She attended LaJolla Elementary School, transferring to the Bishop's School for Girls in the sixth grade and to LaJolla High School in the 11th grade, where she was a cheerleader and member of the California Scholastic Federation.

She met her husband, Robert R. Stewart, while attending the University of Colorado, where she was in Delta Gamma Social Sorority.

Together, they raised five children: Robert R. Stewart Jr. (Connie), Richard H., John “Bill” William (Barbara), Elizabeth “Becky,” and James D. (Lori). Later, when their family was nearly grown, she worked with her husband for AFLAC Insurance Co.

During her time in Aberdeen, she was active in PEO, initiated into Chapter BH, but transferring and serving as president of Chapter CB, then transferring again to Aberdeen's newest chapter, CY. She was also a member and officer of Questers, which supports local restoration projects, and also served on the board for Dacotah Prairie Museum.

Jacqueline was a certified Master Gardner who loved to spend time in her garden and was an enthusiastic watercolor painter.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband; children; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter, Jennifer Leann Stewart.
