Tatting a Heart for Valentine’s Day, 2-3:30 p.m. Jan. 24, 31 and Feb. 7, Paint Lick Community Arts Center. Instructor: Debbonnaire Kovacs. Tatting is a fairly new form of lacemaking; it developed in the mid-19th century and was beloved by Victorians. In this three-week class, participants will learn basic techniques and will tat one or more hearts for Valentine’s Day. Cost: $25; includes materials participants will keep. Valentine Papermaking Workshop, 9:30–11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Paint Lick Community Arts Center. Instructor: Alisa Vogt. Using paper scraps, water and a blender, students will create their own handmade papers in the form of hearts for Valentines. The molds used can produce either flat or three-dimensional heart forms. Ani-Mania, 1:30-2:30 p.m. for six Saturdays, Feb. 2-March 9, Paint Lick Community Arts Center. Instructor: Melissa Brown. An introduction to drawing in the anime and manga style. High school- and middle school-aged students will explore and create their own art informed by the Japanese style of anime. Each class will help students recognize the process of character design, foundational drawing techniques, and cultural awareness through creating, watching and studying anime and manga.
