The Document Foundation has just launched a new office suite called LibreOffice 3.3. The suite is a fork of the popular open-source office suite, OpenOffice.org. The launch marks the first stable release of the LibreOffice suite, which was developed by the developer community.
The LibreOffice suite includes the word processor Writer; Calc for spreadsheets; Impress for multimedia presentations; Draw for building diagrams and sketches; Base for database management; and Math, a simple equation editor. LibreOffice also includes a PDF file creator.
As with OpenOffice.org, LibreOffice is available on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.
One of the best parts about the new suite is that it is free!
In addition to all the great features of OpenOffice.org, LibreOffice also offers:
** the ability to import SVG pictures into Writer and Draw;
** an improved WordPerfect import;
** Lotus Word Pro and MS Works import filters; and
** the ability to have one million rows in a Calc spreadsheet.
Minimum system requirements to run LibreOffice are as follows:

In order to install the software on a Windows system, the user must have administrator rights. The download file size is 215MB.
** On Mac OS X: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or higher; an Intel or PowerPC processor; 512 MB RAM; 800 MB of free hard-disk space; and a video card with a 1024x768 resolution and at least 256 colors. The download size is 180MB for Intel and 184MB for PPC.

The download file size for .rpm is 148MB (x86)/164MB (x64); for .deb the file size is 146MB (x86)/163MB (x64).

Linux update
Last week, I wrote about the new distro called Ylmf OS. I forgot to add that if you decide to run the Live CD, don’t be discouraged if you see menus and other GUI text items written in Chinese. If you install the distro, the distro will display those items in the language that you choose during installation.Cool iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad apps
