Costume 5K event to help Backpack program 

BURGIN — Faithful Friends, a local non-profit organization helping to fight hunger in the community, is sponsoring a Costume 5K Run/Walk, 10:30 a.m., Saturday in Burgin, rain or shine. 

The race will start on North First Street in Burgin, go to Handy Pike and back. Entry fee is $15 per person and $5 for participants ages 12 and younger. Group rates are available for five or more. Race packets may be picked up between 9:45-10:15 a.m. Costumes will be judged at 10 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to the fasted three runners and to best child and adult costumes.

All proceeds will help Faithful Friends fund The Backpack Program.

Boyle library program

African Safari in Tanzania, a slide and video program by Donna and Joe Forgacs, will be presented at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Boyle County Public Library in the Community Room and is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. 

The Forgacs will present the slide, video and photograph program of their recent trip to Tanzania and Zanzibar. It is free and open to the public. A deaf interpreter is available if requested 48 hours in advance by either calling (859) 238-7323 or emailing library@boylepublib.org.

 

Garrard County Public Library events

LANCASTER — Creepy Critters: 6 p.m. Tuesday. Meet some live creepy critters at the library. It's free and open to all ages.

Story Hour: Wednesday 9:15-9:45 a.m., All My Children for ages 2-3; 10-10:30 a.m., Primarily Preschool for children ages 4-5; 11-11:30 a.m. The Young and the Restless for ages 18 months to 3 years.

 

Libraries to host legislative meet and greet 

Boyle, Garrard and Jessamine County libraries will join together and with library supporters at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Boyle County Public Library in Danville in hosting the third annual Legislative Meet and Greet. This is an opportunity for all library users to spend a few minutes with their elected state legislators and candidates to tell them how important their public library is to them and their community.

 

Meetings

Danville City Commission — 5:30 p.m. Monday at city hall. Agenda items include recognition of Fire Chief Woody Ball and open meetings discussion.

Boyle County Fiscal Court — 10 a.m. Tuesday at courthouse. Agenda items include sheriff’s department request for budget amendment and a presentation by the fire department.
