    The new exhibition at the Amistad Center, which draws from its permanent collection of sheet music (including Harold K. Simon and Michael Todd's <em>Hot Mikado with Bill Robinson and Hassard Short</em> from 1939, pictured), albums, war propaganda, news clippings, and advertisements as well as loaned works from other collections and individuals, commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Civil War by exploring the cultural journey of African Americans &mdash; activists, religious leaders, entertainers, and others &mdash; who transfigured and transcended the disturbing legacies of the 19th century.
