  1. Brad Paisley's comfort zone: The old, the new (like Hollywood Bowl)

Brad Paisley estimates that he and his family spend a third of their time in Los Angeles -- most of it scheduled, he says, to "get away from the unbearable heat and the cold of winter" in their other home in Nashville. Even so, the country star has never seen a show at the Hollywood Bowl, where he's set to bring his Virtual Reality tour on Saturday night. "I know all about the venue, so I'm really excited about it," he said Thursday in a phone call from Chula Vista. Paisley added that although he would've liked to have spent longer in the Southland, he's headed back to Tennessee following Saturday's concert in order to prepare for next month's Country Music Association Awards. He and Carrie Underwood will co-host the ceremony, which airs live on ABC, on Nov. 1.

Carrie Underwood’s choice of a tornado as the central image for her current "Blown Away" album and tour became something of a double-edged sword as her show unfolded Tuesday at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

  6. Connie Britton, Callie Khouri make 'Nashville' network TV's best new drama

    The Baltimore Sun
Drama is not exactly something the networks do well any more -- especially drama that has any kind of cultural resonance. But "Nashville," which debuts at 10 p.m. Wednesday on ABC, is the one new network drama that pretty much has it all. In the world...

  10. The Collins Kids are more than all right

Mid-20th century Los Angeles country music performers were such a wildly colorful community that they made their competitors in Nashville seem more like undertakers than entertainers.

  14. 'A crazy kind of mishmash'

Carmine Sardo leads a double life much akin to that of a comic book superhero. By day, he's a mild-mannered merchant, tending to his La Crescenta auto and boat upholstery business. After dark, Sardo is transmogrified into a musical crusader, a player of audacious proficiency whose blend of California country music sensibility and hot, groove-oozing blues combine into a style that's as singular as it is arresting.
