Souther, who develops his own software, collaborates on multi-media art projects with engineers (notably on a piece called "The Life of the Techno Buddha," when together they developed a "brain wave cap" that controls sound and video), dancers and musicians to create interactive multi-media performances for institutions like Charlotte's Mint Museum of Craft + Design, the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City and now the New Britain Museum of American Art, where his "Chair," a compilation of 1,000 YouTube videos, will be on display through March. "Chair" simulates the process of surfing through vast seas of online information, allowing the user to experience databases through a variety of senses.
