There will be plenty of local Division I men's college basketball players to follow when the 2012-13 season tips off Friday. By my count, 83 players from the Baltimore area are on DI rosters this year.
For the third consecutive year, I checked out rosters for every DI team, looking for players who are either from Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Carroll County, Harford County or Howard County, or played for a high school located in one of those areas.
For comparison's sake, I found 72 DI players from this area last season, and 66 during the 2010-11 season.
High Point and Loyola led the way with five local players apiece. DePaul and Maryland were next with three each. Bryant, Marist, Morehead State, Morgan State, NJIT, Pittsburgh, UMBC and UNLV have two local players apiece.
