The Chicago Blackhawks added another forward to the mix of players who will battle for jobs when training camp opens later this month as they agreed to terms with right wing Brandon Segal on a one-year contract Thursday.
The 28-year-old Segal had five goals, five assists and 41 penalty minutes in 46 regular-season games with the Dallas Stars last season. He also appeared in 30 games with the American Hockey League’s Texas Stars, finishing with seven goals, 10 assists and 38 penalty minutes during his eighth professional season.
The Richmond, British Columbia, native has collected 22 points and 79 penalty minutes in 92 career regular-season NHL games over parts of four seasons with the Tampa Bay Lightning (2008-09), Los Angeles Kings (2009-10) and Stars (2009-11).
Segal joins players such as Rostislav Olesz, Marcus Kruger and Ben Smith who will be fighting for jobs when camp opens Sept. 16.
