The girls return to the floor for the February 5 CatchItKansas Catch-All. With only three weeks until sub-state basketball coaches are pushing their teams to arrive at state in peak form. Here's where they stand.
GWAL
Wichita East walked into Wichita North High School with a 5-9 record and walked out 6-9 off the strength of their defense. Forcing the Redskins to turn it over 25 times allowed the Aces to win 60-32.
Wichita South vs. Bishop Carroll took two overtimes to settle, albeit the score was 19-19 after the first overtime had ticked away. Both teams went scoreless in the first overtime but in the second overtime the Titans went on a 7-1 run to close out the Golden Eagles 26-20.
The Falcons flew into the Pioneers territory and proceeded to dismantle them 62-17. Heights' defense held the Wichita West to just 10 points in the first half and scored 42 of their own.
Kapaun Mt. Carmel is now 12-3 after a 57-35 win against Wichita Southeast. The Buffaloes were unable to compete with the 44 point contribution from Sydney Kuhn, Sam Bachrodt and Hannah Lienhard.
Wichita South and Kapaun Mt. Carmel are tied atop the Greater Wichita Athletic League with 10-1 records. Their only loses came against each other as they split the season series 1-1 with the Titans winning the most recent game 34-28 on February 1.
AVCTL
The Salthawks of Hutchinson soared past the Campus Colts 48-29. Hutchinson improves to 5-10 and Campus falls to 5-10 on the season.
Maize, the number two team in class 6A (See Rankings), moves to 14-1 with a 52-36 victory over the Derby Panthers.
The Railers roll through the Cougars as Newton defends home court and gets a 39-26 win against Salina South.
The Jaguars pounce all over the Tigers 74-40 giving Andover Central a 7-1 league record and an overall mark of 12-4.
Andover goes into Arkansas City's gym and dominates all game. The Trojans won 58-24.
The Hornets sting the Lions with a 30 point 58-28 win on their home floor. Valley Center improves to 9-6.
Central Kansas League
Sterling slayed the Halstead Dragons 61-44. The Black Bears move to 14-2 on the season and drop the Dragons to 6-10.
Hesston takes advantage of a struggling Nickerson squad beating them 63-16. The Swathers inflate their record to 14-2.
Hillsboro blows past Smoky Valley with a 29 point 55-26 victory in Lindsborg. The Trojans move to 5-0 in league play and 15-1 on the season.
The Lyons Lions snatched a victory from the Eagles of Kingman. 59-44 was the final score as Lyons improves to 11-5 overall.
Central Plains League
Garden Plain pulls away from Belle Plaine in a 51-14 victory. The 37 point victory propels the Owls to 15-1 on the season.
Douglass dominates Bluestem 63-29.
Chaparral narrowly edged Cheney 52-51 moving them one game away from .500 with a 7-8 record on the year.
Wichita Trinity sends the Cardinals flying back to Conway Springs. Trinity grabs win number 12 on the year out of 18 games.
Heart of America
Sedgwick wins in a defensive battle against Hutchinson Trinity. With only 65 total points scored the Cardinals had 36 of them compared to the Celtics' 29.
North Central Activities Association
Southeast of Saline barely sneaks past a competitive Beloit squad 50-43. The seven point victory pushes the Trojans to a 10-6 record overall and 5-3 in the NCAA league.
Russell's 40-37 win against Sacred Heart moves them to 13-5 on the year.
Non-League
Maize South proves to be too much for Wichita Collegiate as the Mavericks defeat the Spartans 52-28. Maize South improves to 9-6 and Collegiate falls to 4-9 on the year.
Wellington puts on a defensive clinic holding El Dorado to just 29 points the whole game. The Crusaders go on to score 39 points of their own winning by 10 and grabbing their 10th win of the year.
Wichita Independent prance past Medicine Lodge, barely, 41-37. The Panthers win by four and get their fifth win of the year.
Ell-Saline's 17 point win against Marion moves them to 3-12 on the year, however they're still searching for their first win in league play this season.
Osborne goes into Smith Center and gets blown out by the Lady Red 73-45. Smith Center has 15 wins and only one loss on the year.
Abilene survives a visit from Silver Lake 46-38. The Cowboys gallop to an 11-5 record after their eight point win against the Eagles.
Salina Central dominates Hays in a 33 point rout. The Mustangs were untouchable in their 69-36 victory over the Indians.
Great Bend pulls 11 point victory away from the visiting Buhler squad. The Panthers sent the Crusaders packing 61-50 and improve to 9-5 this season.
Dodge City haunts a visiting Ulysses team 45-30. The Red Demons achieve victory for the fourth time in the 2012-2013 season.
