There are times when Evan Boudreaux can pass for a sophomore, like when he is visiting a college campus.

The 15-year-old Lake Forest sophomore looks closer to 25, and he has a mature game to match.

No secret in Lake County, the 6-foot-7 Boudreaux had two or three Warren defenders draped all over him Friday night.

When the Blue Devils finally neutralized him, 6-9 senior Sam Downey was there to provide the finishing touch.

Boudreaux had 14 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots, and Downey scored six of his 12 during a 9-0 closing run that turned a one-point fourth-quarter deficit into a 36-28 Lake Forest victory in Gurnee.

"Evan can go all four quarters," Downey said. "He's a really good player. I just wanted to help our team get the 'W.'"

"We were frustrated against Zion-Benton (a 53-50 loss last Saturday). We wanted to better job on defense. We didn't want two conference losses before Christmas. This was a big win. We had six days of practice; guards hit big shots."

Downey said all Lake Forest (6-1, 2-1 North Suburban Lake) practiced this week was defense, and for one quarter Friday it made for perfection.

With Downey and Boudreaux forming a wall on the interior, the Scouts outscored Warren 9-0 in the second quarter to take a 17-10 halftime lead.

The Blue Devils (6-4, 2-2) played zone but managed to limit Boudreaux's touches with physical play off and on the ball during their comeback.

"Usually when teams see Sam and I they get really physical with us to take us off our games," Boudreaux said. "Sam did a great job staying poised and we got the win."
