During the early part of the day Sunday, the Somerset County Fair in Meyersdale entertained crowds at the dairy goat show, the bake sale and the horse pull.
At the dairy goat show, there were 39 goats entered in the show representing the breeds of Alpine, Lamancha, Nubian, Saanen, Toggenberg, Recorded Grade and Nigerian Dwarf.
Jancy Lynn, 11, of Bakersville won Best Senior Doe in show with Sunflower, an Alpine doe. She is the daughter of Jill and Dave Lynn and a member of G-Y-Knot 4-H Club.
Jancy loves to show with her older sister, Joece and younger brother, Colton. Last year, Jancy won grand champion steer at the fair and won again with the same steer at the Keystone International Livestock Exhibition in Harrisburg last year. Jancy is hopeful for a win for her steer this year as well.
"I love animals and I love to show," said Jancy. "It's fun to be in the show ring."
Hattie Mostoller, 14, of Hooversville won Junior Doe Best in Show with her Lamancha goat named Annabelle. She is a member of Dairydells 4-H Club and the daughter of the late Scott Mostoller and Rachel and Ron Weible. She will be an eighth grader at North Star School District this fall. Her older sisters, Maggie Berkey and Eva Mostoller each showed animals at the fair in the past.
Hattie also won several championships at the dairy goat show last year at the fair.
"I've always loved the dairy goats," said Hattie. "Each one has a different personality and it's interesting to get to work with them and see my goats do well in the show."
Alyssa Weigle, 19, Berlin, won Best Udder during the dairy goat show at the fair on Sunday with her LaMancha goat named Serenity, a 2-year-old. She is the daughter of Richard and Sandy Weigle and a member of Brotherton Belles and Beaus 4-H Club.
Alyssa is a well-known exhibitor at the dairy goat show every year. Now, a sophomore at the Penn Highlands College in Johnstown majoring in early childhood education, Alyssa's last year in the competition ring will be this year. Alyssa's older sister, Aleaha, also showed dairy goats for several years and now Aleaha's children, Kylie and Jordan, are also starting to show dairy goats.
