Rick Sechler (October 23, 2012) |
Former Meyersdale Borough Council president and businessman Rick Sechler died Monday. He was 57.
His family said he will be remembered for his strong spirit, boisterous laugh and unwavering faith.
“He will be greatly missed,” said the Rev. Randy Haulk of Meyersdale Grace Brethren Church, where Sechler was a member.
Sechler died unexpectedly from an aneurysm above the heart, according to Haulk. He was flown to UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Sechler served at the church as a substitute Sunday School teacher and youth minister, and sang as a bass in the choir. He and his wife, Audrey, attended the church for 30 years.
“He was just a faithful member of the congregation and a real servant here,” Haulk said. “He was available to us for whatever we needed.”
Haulk said he thinks Sechler would most want to be remembered as a follower of Christ who lived by the word of God.
Sechler also owned the Laurel Sport Shop with his wife for more than 20 years.
Lifelong friend Bill Price of William Rowe Price Funeral Home in Meyersdale said Sechler carried out his family’s legacy of business ownership.
“He’s a wonderful businessman and was dedicated to the community for many years,” Price said.
