Former Bethel receiver Willie Davis, who led the Peninsula District with 50 catches in 2011 before enrolling at Hargrave Military Academy, has committed to Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi, W.Va.

Davis has started taking classes at A-B and will be able to participate in spring practice. He will be a true freshman in the fall.

“What I like most about A-B is their offensive style,” he said. “They reminded me a lot of my high school team. It’s a very high-paced offense that passes a lot, and they tell me I’ll be able to play right away. That attracted me.

“I like the school a lot. It’s a better fit for me because I’m not in classes with 80 people like at a bigger school. You can interact with the teachers more.”

Alderson-Broaddus, in NCAA Division II, is preparing for its first varsity season in 80 years after going 9-2 against JV opponents last fall. The roster includes seven players from the Peninsula area, including former Woodside linemen Andy Ruckman and Kyle Westfall.

As a senior at Bethel, Davis had 11 receiving touchdowns, second in the district to teammate Rashawn Proctor, who is now at Old Dominion.
