  9. Lewisberry Council Votes to Amend Ordinance; Raising Chickens is Banned in the Borough

A York County family has been told they must say goodbye to their five pet chickens.  The Miller family has had their chickens since they were a day old.  For the first eight weeks of their lives they were raised in the family’s garage.  When it was time to move the chickens outdoors, the Miller family consulted their next door neighbor and Lewisberry Councilman Bob Smith.  Brooke Miller told FOX43 the family was advised to check Lewisberry ordinances concerning raising animals.  Miller found a ban on raising livestock but did not find a ban on raising fowl.  She said the issue was discussed at a council meeting and a proposal was made to amend the ordinance, which would include raising fowl.
