  1. TCA: Katie Couric offers bucket list for her upcoming ABC talk show “Katie”

    Channel Guide Magazine
“I haven't done this for a while,” said Katie Couric, looking enviably youthful and lovely — and just a trifle nervous — as she surveyed the roomful of television writers and critics assembled to hear her discuss her upcoming ABC...

  11. 'Artrageous' fashion and street food fun

Macy's Passport presents Glamorama took flight "Like a G6" with performances by Far East Movement and Grammy Award-winner Cee Lo Green at the Chicago Theatre. The sold-out event lived up to its reputation with guests viewing fall fashion by Jean Paul Gaultier, Marc Jacobs, Sonia Rykiel, Papi, Tracy Reese, Armani Jeans and Bar III. The event raised more than $350,000 for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana in their efforts building the world's largest Ronald McDonald House. I was proud to be the honorary chairwoman for this event.

  13. Designer clothes for kids: Nothing too good for baby

It's hard to miss those paparazzi shots of celebrity toddlers being toted around by their famous parents, kids who are dressed, well, to look just like mom or dad. Gwen Stefani's boys sport mohawks, black rocker T-shirts and baggy cargo pants like their dad Gavin Rossdale; Jessica Alba's daughter Honor Warren mimics her mother's frilly, feminine style; and little Suri Cruise seems to love perusing the shoe section at Barneys New York just as much as does her stylish mother, Katie Holmes.

The extraordinary workmanship on display in "Il Teatro alla Moda — Theater in Fashion" in Beverly Hills makes it easy to understand why Italy's haute couture fashion scene was once as revered as that of France.

  17. Namaste Farms puts a different spin on yarn

Whether it's a luxury automobile, a couture gown or a special vintage of wine, even those who aren't collectors and connoisseurs recognize that perceived rarity and quality drive up demand. And price. But would you be willing to pay a premium price — say five times as much — for yarn? What if it was a luxurious, lustrous fiber, hand-sheared, -washed, -dyed and -spun from an award-winning sheep — all by the same woman — less than 100 miles southeast of Los Angeles?

  19. Majoring in chic at L.A.'s fashion schools

In a bustling part of downtown L.A., a high-rise is teeming with stylish young women in short skirts and full makeup wheeling small suitcases in and out of elevators on their way to class. They're students at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, where, down the hall from a flat-screen TV broadcasting a runway show, past a plexiglass case of high-fashion Barbies, two of their peers are consulting with Mary Stephens, the school's self-described "big boss."¶"This is a very new-looking shape here," says Stephens, FIDM's director of fashion design. She is talking to Alejandro Ortega, one of 11 students the school has accepted into its advanced fashion design program this year and one of the 8,000 students enrolled on FIDM's four California campuses.
