  1. Frequent fliers don't believe airline performance has improved, despite evidence

More than 53 percent of frequent fliers say that air travel has gotten worse for them in the past year despite statistics showing the industry performing at its all-time best.

  3. JetBlue, Southwest and Virgin America keep winning

  5. Airline 'quality' up? Maybe -- a little

The overall "quality" of the 15 biggest U.S. airlines improved in 2011 over the previous year, but not by much: According to the annual "Airline Quality Rating" (AQR), scores improved from -1.20 to -1.08. (AQR scores are always negative, so the less...

  7. Refunding a nonrefundable

"$150 to retain the value of a $300 ticket I had to cancel," complains a reader "Is a complete rip-off." I agree. What started as a reasonable policy -- charging $25 to allow you to retain the value of a nonrefundable ticket you had to cancel -- has...

  9. Senior Travel: Bid for cheap upgrades?

A few days before my short flight on US Airways from Charlotte to Baltimore last fall, US Airways sent an email asking if I'd like to upgrade to first class for $90 at the airport, if a seat was still available. I didn't take the US Airways offer -- $90 seemed like a stiff price for a flight of just an hour -- but I might have been tempted on a longer flight. US Airways and a few others are quietly selling upgrades to travelers on cheap tickets, at least on some flights. And, if you have a tough time with cattle-car coach accommodations, buying a last-minute upgrade may be the only practical way to enjoy a comfortable flight.

  13. After JetBlue heartbreak, Orlando should focus on home

JetBlue Airways served up heartbreak for Orlando this week when it became the city's latest prom date to go home with someone else at the end of the night. We've been jilted before at the big dance that happens when an attractive company flirts with...

  15. Any intercontinental low-fare airlines?

Despite the huge growth of low-fare airlines such as Southwest, JetBlue, and others, you don't see any low-fare lines to Asia or southern South America. Although a few transatlantic lines lay claim to the "low fare" label, they're very limited.

  17. How grand will rail stop at OIA be?

Orlando International Airport rolled out plans last week for how it would like to mix air travel with high-speed rail. But how many of the world's major cities have big ground-transportation hubs that require the vast majority of local residents to...

  19. Tourism slogan plays it safe

Florida unveiled a new tourism slogan last week: "Your Florida Side is Calling." Not exactly knocking your socks off, is it? But then, my guess is the folks at DDB Miami, the advertising agency that devised the $6.1 million campaign for Visit Florida,...
