  9. Test your seaworthy skills at Mariners' museum family day

    How would you fare if abandoned at sea? The Mariners' Museum will test your seaworthy skills at a family day event Saturday. During the "Abandon Ship" program, visitors will be given a ticket to board a certain craft. Once on their journey, the newly born sailors will encounter various dangers at sea like hurricanes or rogue waves, causing them to abandon ship. Challenged to stay alive, sailors will have to create a survival kit and learn how to make fresh water from ocean water. The special event takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and is included in museum admission. Tickets cost $12 for adults, $7 for children ages 6 to 12, and $10 for students ages 13 and older. The museum is located at 100 Museum Drive, Newport News. Call 596-2222.
