  1. Dr. Joseph Ellery Michaud, 90, formerly of Johnstown

    Dr. Joseph Ellery Michaud, 90 died at Memorial Hospital on Dec. 7, 2011 from complications due to head trauma injury. He was born in Soldier Pond Maine, June 3, 1921. He was the son of Donat P. Michaud, and Gertrude (Saucier) Michaud. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Esther Michaud. They married in Arlington, Va. in 1949. Esther and Ellery traveled the world together. They had four children: Jay Michaud, Arlington, Va., deceased; John Michaud, Oak Island, N.C.; James Michaud, Johnstown, deceased; and Janet Michaud, Malvern. Survived by four grandchildren: Jacqueline Markferding, Malvern; Joseph l. Markferding, Malvern; Matthew Michaud, Pittsburgh; Brian Michaud, Los Angeles, Cal.; brother, Donald Michaud of Ellicott City, Md., and sister Irene Bouchard, of Fort Kent, Maine. Dr. Michaud was a graduate of Georgetown University in 1943. He graduated from Georgetown Medical School in 1946. He served his pediatric residency at Children's Hospital in Washington, D.C. He continued his service at Children's Hospital, where he was appointed assistant chief resident. He practiced pediatrics in Johnstown from 1953 to 1997. He derived great joy serving the Johnstown community through his practice, Franklin Pediatrics. Dr. Michaud was a pilot for many years. He traveled with the Flying Physicians attending meetings around the United States. He also enjoyed boating, and his home at Indian Lake. Friends will be received from 12 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011 at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd., Johnstown. Memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. Condolences may be sent to www.ducafuneralhome.com.
