1. 'Star Trek Into Darkness': Good but not great sequel to 2009's 'Star Trek'

It is commonly accepted that of the original “Star Trek” movie series, 1982’s “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” is about ten times better than 1979’s “Star Trek: The Motion Picture.”

  3. Film review: 'Rise of the Guardians' fails to be a holiday hit

"Rise of the Guardians" is a humdrum animated film that I'm sure is supposed to be the start of a hot new franchise. The premise is that legendary children's characters, often believed to be imaginary, are in fact real and moonlight as superheroes. I can see where that's a good idea on paper and I won't deny that it's easily marketable. But the film lacks good ideas beyond this most basic stage and quickly becomes dull and joyless, at least for adults who reluctantly see it with their kids.

  5. 'Deja viewed': Movie sequels dominate summer

With so many remakes, sequels and familiar subjects hitting theaters between now and Labor Day, this year's summer movie season should be dubbed as "deja viewed." There are sequels by the numbers: "Smurfs 2," "Red 2," "Kick-Ass 2," "Despicable Me 2,"...

  11. Alice Eve lingerie in 'Star Trek' might be misogynistic, writer says

It’s one of the strangest scenes in “Star Trek Into Darkness”: With no explanation or motivation, USS Enterprise visitor Carol (Alice Eve) strips down to her blue underwear, whereupon James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) sneaks a peek.

  15. 'Star Trek Into Darkness' a worthy enterprise, critics say

It wouldn't be quite accurate to say that J.J. Abrams' 2009 "Star Trek" reboot boldly went where no man had gone before. After all, such familiar faces such as Capt. Kirk, Mr. Spock and Uhura were along for the ride (though played by new actors), as was...

  21. 'Star Trek' sequel to knock 'Iron Man' out of top box-office spot

  23. Review: 'Star Trek Into Darkness' ramps up action, leaves room for heart

"Star Trek Into Darkness," bursting at the seams with enemies, wears its politics, its mettle, its moxie and its heart on its ginormous 3-D sleeve. Director J.J. Abrams and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise try to build a better sequel with action...
