  1. 'Iron Man 3': High anxiety for Tony Stark ★★ 1/2

A little too much and a little not enough, director and co-writer Shane Black's "Iron Man 3" nonetheless has everything Disney and Marvel need to keep the "Avengers" superhero constellation shining and regenerating well into the 23rd century. It's what you call a pre-hit: As of this writing (Tuesday, 8:57 a.m. CST) the movie already has zoomed past the $200 million mark in worldwide box office.

  3. The Geek Easy levels up

With the arrival of a beer and wine license last month, the Geek Easy has fulfilled owner Aaron Haaland's vision as a "sports bar without the sports"
If you don't know by now that geeks are doing the bullying these days, I'd urge you to mention the words "Game of Thrones" or "Doctor Who" around the office water cooler. "The Avengers" director Joss Whedon is one of the most powerful men in Hollywood,...

  5. Cast makes 'Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' shine ✭✭✭

A comedy-drama saved by the casting bell,"The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" arranges for a tiptop collection of British character women and men to bring out the best in a pleasantly predictable story. Wait. Shouldn't that be "unhappily predictable"? Not always, folks: Some projects are better off going easy on the surprises, and concentrating on a reassuring level of actorly craft.

  9. Man About Town: A few heroic leaps at an 'Avengers' matinee

"The Avengers," as you may have heard, is the biggest thing to happen to America since World War II but, you know, louder and more troubling. At the end of the matinee I witnessed, audience members actually cheered, believing what they'd just seen was some sort of documentary. Manhattan had been saved, which is almost always a cause for celebration, though I met this one New Yorker the other day at the rent-a-car place: swaggery young Italian guy, you know the type.
