  1. Film review: 'The Lucky One' predictable Nicholas Sparks romance

It's probably a good thing that I don't see a lot of movies based on the books of Nicholas Sparks. He's known for super-schmaltzy romance novels that are routinely derided by critics but sell like crazy.

  3. Movie review: In 'New Year's Eve,' we want a rainbow, but get shades of gray

“New Year’s Eve” is a movie that if nothing else has a lot going on. The film consists of multiple stories each with its own handful of recognizable actors. The logic is that everything can’t possibly fail at once and everyone should find something to enjoy. It’s a faulty logic because the variety of characters and storylines are all products of the same uninspired writing and direction. What we want is a rainbow, what we get is multiple shades of grey.

  5. Get a real taste of Gen Yum

A quick Google search of the word "millennials" returns a string of results reflecting curiosity, discontent and even some disgust with America's newest adult generation. The most recent hits include a poll on the Pew Research Center's website, "How millennial are you?" and from Mashup, an article titled, "Why can't millennials find jobs?" A recent Time magazine's cover story was called, "The me, me, me generation: Millennials are lazy, entitled narcissists who still live with their parents; Why they'll save us all." Now that's a title.

  7. 'This Is the End': Seth Rogen brings about star-studded apocalypse

NEW ORLEANS — The music is blaring inside James Franco's house and there's booze — and drugs — everywhere. Actor Michael Cera is snorting lines of cocaine, while comedian Aziz Ansari is trying (and failing) to hook up with Rihanna....

  9. 'At Any Price': Seeds of woe down on the farm ★★ 1/2

"At Any Price," a roughly mixed but interestingly plotted offshoot of "Death of a Salesman" and other hardy father/son perennials, is the fourth feature from writer-director Ramin Bahrani, whose career has been remarkable for his consistency of theme as well as his eagerness to nudge himself toward greater ambition.

  11. A show of love for Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally

Nick Offerman races into the lobby of West Los Angeles' Odyssey Theatre, pulls off his green trucker's cap and wipes his brow. Megan Mullally, right behind him, smooths her magenta-tinted hair and adjusts her cat-eye glasses.

  13. Dennis Quaid: 'At Any Price' star puts experiences to use

There was a time, in the late 1980s, when each new film starring Dennis Quaid was The One. The one destined to make him not just an actor, not just an actor with guts and a wily, toothy joker's grin, but a huge box-office-reliable star. In the summer of 1987, The One was the adventure fantasy “Innerspace,” which turned out to be a medium hit. Two summers later it was the Jerry Lee Lewis biopic “Great Balls of Fire!” in which Quaid whooped it up to yahoo Himalayan heights. Again, not a disaster. But not The One.

  19. 'At Any Price' gives a real-world view of the American farmer

As a movie icon, the American farmer has, for many a year, occupied a hand-whittled pedestal, standing tall as a weathered symbol of all that's good and true in this screwed-up world. One of the galvanic surprises of "At Any Price," the Iowa-set drama...
