  5. 'Top Chef Seattle' recap, Battle before the war

We are greeted with another sunny Seattle morning, as the chefs debrief on the prior elimination. Josh confesses he isn’t the least bit disappointed in John Tesar’s departure, while Stefan is shown looking despondently off on the horizon as he smokes alone on the balcony. Maybe it’s just that he lost his one smoking buddy. Meanwhile, Josie bellows “Asians represent!” and attempts to high five Kristen and Sheldon, who shrug her off like a bad cold.

  7. 'Top Chef' recap: You've got to be kidding me

I'm still reeling from Wednesday night's "Top Chef" elimination. I ended up yelling at the TV, cursing the show and nursing a stress tummy ache when it ended. The restaurant wars raged and the wrong chef fell. How is it possible that Kristen "Twiggy" Kish was sent home and bootleg to no end Josie Smith-Malave is still in the competition? Let's take a look at what happened.

  11. A potluck kind of year

If only it were so easy to pithily proclaim 2012 as the Year of the (fill-in-the-blank). But there's really no one thread that neatly ties together the Chicago restaurant scene these last 12 months. A restaurant that put Chicago on the culinary map 25 years ago closed its doors. Doughnuts became "a thing." Digging up mushrooms from the forest preserve took on high status.

  13. 'Top Chef' recap: A lesson on Josie's tree

Bravo TV, thank you, thank you for not making your day after Christmas episode a Christmas episode and for introducing us to Josie's tree -- more on that later. I feared Santa outfits and Christmas music, but instead the chefs began their quick-fire challenge picking fresh oysters, then teasing viewers by shucking them right on the farm and slurping them up. Did anyone else feel the urge to lunge at the TV and grab one?
