Springfield, Mo. -- Heading to the movies is a popular pastime during the holidays.  But a landmark change in the film industry is threatening to put some locally-owned theaters out of business.  Places like Springfield's Moxie Cinema have just days to pay for the digital transition.

  5. Midge Ure: the Voice of Ultravox Arrive at the Stafford Palace Theater on January 11th

Everything old is new again, or so the saying goes.  It's fitting that a band known for their unique blend of synth wave and electronica, after taking a twenty-eight year gap between albums and breaking their long silence with the release of "Brilliant," should be heading stateside to the newly re-opened and renovated Stafford Palace Theater.  On January 11th, Midge Ure will bring Midge Ure: the Voice of Ultravox's mix of electronics and rock to the stage.  For those in the know, Midge needs no introduction – with the smash success of the hit single "Vienna," in Europe, as well as multiple musical accolades, including a Grammy, BASCAP Awards, and multiple gold and platinum records.  For those who haven't heard him before... think early Morrissey with an eerie, authentic twist.  Midge's unique combination of pop vocals and heavy synth are born through his early roots as the front man of teen sensation Silk.  Their single "Forever and Ever" took the Number One spot on the UK charts in 1976, but Midge soon found himself running with a heavier crowd – as he was mentored by ex-Sex Pistol band member Glen Matlock.  Midge describes this period of his musical career as "baptism by fire" – and its influence can be heard in his collaborations with Midge Ure: the Voice of Ultravox.  For seasoned fans and novices alike, this 'new wave' concert promises to be an exceptional experience in Stafford Springs.

  13. New Documentary Showcases the Spiritual Lives of the Zulu in South Africa

Director Roger Ingraham, along with two additional Stafford Springs residents and an international team of seekers, traveled to South Africa to document — and perhaps absorb — the spiritual lives of the Zulu. The resulting documentary, "The Calling," will be screened on Dec. 8 at the Palace Theater in Stafford, shortly before the filmmakers ship it off to various festivals. The opening — the first film shown at the Palace in 52 years — will be feted with live music, a Q&A with the director and his team, and probably popcorn. All ages welcome.
